Hey there, my name is Gobber and I have over 2k games on Freya.
I reached rank 8 in soloQ on the global leaderboards during the preseason and I’m currently ranked top 20 in Europe.
With this guide, I hope to share my knowledge of Freya. I also stream, so if you’re interested in some Freya gameplay feel free to stop by :).
Target is vulnerable to Freya’s attacks for 3s. Static is a debuff you can apply to your enemy in the following ways: Storm mace, EX-Space and EX-E, normal E and your ult.
M1 – Bash
Your auto attack, it deals 10/10/16 damage (12/12/18 if static is applied). The fact that is deals 16 damage on the third auto attack is important to keep in mind.
You can incap someone and while walking towards them hit the air twice so that you can open up on them with a 16 damage hit before using your other abilities; this will allow you to maximize your damage output and it can make a world of difference.
M2 – Storm Mace
Throw a mace that deals 10 damage and inflicts Static. Consumes Static instead if the enemy is already affected by Static, knocking them back and inflicting incapacitate if knocked into a wall.
Static duration: 3s
Incapacitate duration: 1.5s
Great in combination with your EX-E ability (Thunderslam, apply static from afar + fading snare for a free incap.
Space – Spring
– Leap to target location and gain Spring (1.5s 100% fading movement speed).
EX Space – Electric conduction
– Leap to the target location and gain Shock Vault (2s 100% fading movement speed. Your next bash hit consumes this to deal 8 bonus damage and inflict fading snare (2s) and static (3s).
Q – Electric shield
– Counter incoming melee and projectile attacks. Countering any attack pulls that enemy towards you and inflicts static (3). Grants you a shield (18) when you counter the first attack.
E – Thunderclap
– Jump into the air and slam your mace into the ground. Deals 10 damage and inflicts Static in an area. Deals 6 bonus damage to enemies with Static.
R – Charged Strike
– Melee attack that deals 14 damage and grants a Shield. Consumes Static from enemies increasing the power of the Shield.
F – Lightning Strike
– Leap high into the air and strike down upon your enemies. Deals 45 damage and inflicts Static. Deals 15 bonus damage if the enemy is already affected by Static.
3. Battlerite Overview
Storm Mace hits increase your movement speed by 35% for 2s.
High-value battlerite, storm mace has a 3-second cooldown so if you land your mace often enough you’ll have the speed buff throughout a significant portion of the match.
This allows you to stay on your target for longer durations and makes it easier to dodge incoming attacks by letting you sidestep quicker.
While Spring is active your next Bash grants you a Shield. It absorbs up to 14 damage for 3s.
Solid damage negation whenever you engage.
Spring range increases by 25% and movement speed bonus duration increases by 1s.
With the recent nerf to the attack speed rite I recommend thundering spring but in certain matchups (melee heavy) I suggest Lightning Speed instead.
Each enemy hit by Thunderclap grants you a shield that absorbs up to 10 damage for 3s.
Must have battlerite, makes it hard for the enemy team to focus you down as it will only give you a stronger shield.
Move forward during Thunderclap. I prefer Rolling Thunder over Torrent as the mobility it grants lets you land your Thunderclap nearly every single time.
Example: Croak opens up on you with a stun, after the stun duration ends he’ll use his E to dash through you without popping your counter.
If you have rolling thunder you can Thunderclap after him and get a free shield + punish him.
Vs melee heavy team:
5. How to Play (in general)
Freya is a bruiser that is focused on damage negation with her shield abilities, while she does have many I-frames it is important to space these out as you’ll be completely helpless without them.
Don’t Thunderclap and counter right away etc. By spacing out your cooldowns it’s much harder to punish you and this will allow you to drag out 1v2’s while your team kills their ally (example). Try to get close to the enemy players at the start without using your space, if this is not an option throw you mace and wait around for a bit. Your target should be whoever you think is out of position/used their CD’s.
If you can manage to separate a player from his/her team and deal 50+ damage within a short period of time you should go for it.
Naturally, your course of action depends on multiple variables but an example could be if I see a Jumong without double mobility rites I feel comfortable taking him on even if one of his teammates try to peel. If you’re comfortable with your own skill level you should try to force 1v2’s.
6. Strengths and Weaknesses
Huge outplay potential.
Orb control (besides your ult).
Very vulnerable to slows.
High damage negation.
Relies on her 3rd auto attack for damage.
Hard to assign a a difficulty rating to champions as it’s all about team comps. I’ve tried to provide some general pointers and things to keep in mind while going up against these champions.
Battlerite is such a intricate game that I can’t list every scenario so you might thing of lots of stuff that could be added but for simplicity’s sake, I’ve only listed a few thing on each champ.
Save Thunderclap for her E ability so you don’t get frozen.
Make sure to check if she has the double space rite so you know when it’s safe to ult her.
Energy farm her when she is iceblocked.
EX-E and incap her to close the gap, walk up to her in that time (movement from mace) then when she spaces away follow with your own space.
Most Ashka players do the same thing everytime you approach them so try to keep in mind his pattern when going in. Example: whenever you get close he uses his knockback (E) on you.
If you notice this, try using your EX-E to slow him down and as you get close activate counter when he is about to E you. This will force his space and you can follow after him.
Be wary of his AOE petrify.
You can’t chase down most Ashka players so don’t bother unless they’ve wasted CD’s.
Lots of downtime if you try to fight him so I recommend that you only jump him when Bulwark is down to get some free damage in, try incapping him right before it comes back up.
Try to E all of his jumps so that you land right after him. If there is a wall behind him he will most likely bulwark as he is afraid of getting incapped.
Run straight at him and counter if you think he is going to dash you with his weaken.
Punish her early before she gets energy for her R, if she does use her R EX-E her for damage and posistion yourself inbetween her and her team so she has to go through you.
Then when the R ends try throwing a mace to incap her or knock her from the team. Either way, she will be out of the fight for a couple of seconds and it will be a 3v2 til she gets back.
Don’t try to counter her E (stun). If she cancels it you’ll be vulnerable, if she hits you’ll hardly take any damage and right before the stun pops you can thunderclap it to deal damage to her when she was expecting you to get stunned.
Be wary of her empowered auto attack as it weakens but keep in mind that she will try to use it whenever it’s up. This can be a free counter for you.
Most croak players will try to open on your teammate with a stun, E (dash) through them and then jump away. After the first jump be ready to EX jump after him when he uses his last jump.
By doing this you’ll get a 3 auto attack combo off and a potential incap (EX-Space applies static and fading snare).
With rolling thunder you can E after he stuns you as he dashes through you to apply static and follow him.
Get used to how croaks move around and you can EX-E him while he’s stealthed followed with a free mace.
After you incap her when you know she has her space (ball) walk right up to her and counter as the counter ends. 9/10 times she will try to use her ball and you will now get your counter popped + she’ll lose all her movement speed.
After this, she will try to counter in panic and all you have to do is stand still then burst her down as she now has no CD’s. This doesn’t always work ofc but it’s something to keep in mind.
Her right click is a spell block, not a silence. This means that as long as you don’t click anything it will be over right away and you can keep charging at her team/her.
Some Ezmo players use their space aggresively. Punish this by spacing after them. If they use the Q (shield) right as you get to them you should use your E and when it ends go aggresive.
He might try to load up his M2, counter it quickly and take his HP down.
Use your mobility to avoid his E (root). Walk in unpredictable patterns when he’s almost done casting it.
Unless the other one messes up it’s a pointless brawl, leave her to your teammates unless she uses her CD’s.
Nightmare, she will most likely take EMP to remove your shields and you can’t trade well with her most of the time.
Get used to dealing with her spellblock or you’re gonna have a bad time.
If you jump after her and she uses her shield you won’t get through it. Best thing to do is to go for a EX-E + mace incap, or ditch her completely.
Same thing regarding spellblock.
If you space on her and she stealthes use the eye over your head to find her, auto attack til you find her unless you know she has her E.
Usually panics if you slow them down with a snare so go for that and be calm so you don’t procc the spellblock and get silenced.
When she uses her space onto a wall and you’re the only nearby target activate your counter as the second jump can actviate counters.
Be really careful with her counter but if you procc it just thunderclap and incap her asap. If she does hit you with the counter save a I-Frame do dodge the damage from it.
Her R is very dangerous and you should therefore always have a defensive ability ready for it. It can turn the entire fight around as it heals her and stuns you.
Easy in general. Unless he takes mobility rites just go for him. Space out you CD’s and attack him before he gets 3 weapon charges (so he can double space).
If you attack before he has weapon charges or energy for prowl it should be a easy match unless you get trapped by him and his team reacts.
After he prowls through you he will often try to auto attack you because you have seekers mark on you which can heal him (potential free counter).
If you go on her make sure to save your E. When you see her throw her clarity potion into the air above you both use your to dodge it and avoid getting knocked back.
Try to incap he when she uses her shield.
EX-Space after the roll if you think you can catch up to slow her down right away.
Pay attention to what she is casting. If you see her hand turning purple use your counter unless this is at higher ranks where cancel casting is normal.
Annoying to deal with. Never hit him when he uses his shield as he most likely has taken either reduced space cooldown or shield when it gets hit. If you can avoid this he should be killable.
Save your E for his R (petrify) so that you can dodge it right before you get petrified.
If your ult has been ready for a while the same goes for him most likely, do not ult before he has used his ult and his space afterwards. If you have the option try to thunderclap before ulting in this scenario for +15 damage.
Boring matchup 😛
If her weapon is charged she will try to use it up before countering.
When you get close to her she will most likely counter right away. Thunderclap her and when she spaces away try to counter her charged attack and then burst her down.
Free ult after she has used her space, 8/10 times you will be able to apply static first.
Pestilus will take double fear and throw it on himself, you can let the first one hit the round and when it’s about to bounce again use thunderclap.
Focus his teammates as you can just body block most of his healing and potentially get a free counter as he gets more desperate to heal his teammate.
Easy to punish him after space if you have your spring effect from space or the movement from your mace (tempest) active as you can easily walk out of his aoe fear.
Better Pestilus players will spam their puke to root you. If he does this and is out in the open go for a quck EX-E mace combo.
If you can bait out her fears comfortably rush her, if not focus her teammates.
The trick to baiting out her fears is to space at her and then do absolutely nothing whily you run at her. It’s the dumbest thing of all, but it works.
Keep in mind that most Poloma players will take fear reset (when they space). If you bait our her fear after her space she has to use other side and after that, you have a solid amount of time to pound her.
Check if he has the spin at the end of his parry. If he does move towards him as it is about to end and activate your counter for a free procc.
Keep in mind that you can counter his space.
In a 1v1 a Raigon of the same skill level as you should win because he has health regeneration with his attacks while you only have damage negation with the shields.
Keep an eye out for his EX-E (incap).
If your team reacts you can kill him right away when he messes up his counter, if not he’ll regain alot by spamming his EX-M1.
Always thunderclap when he uses his M2.
Try to posistion yourself so he has a wall behind him and you don’t.
If you do pop his counter you can counter right away yourself as he will most likely start auto attacking right away.
Sometimes you should bodyblock his space and tank the damage so he doesn’t get away. Do this when you feel that you can win the forced fight.
Avoid his empowered M1 either by countering or thunderclapping.
Never hit his Q as it will give him a empowerd M1 instantly.
Easy to incap him when Q is down so just do it.
You can 1v1 him as long as you don’t hit the Q shield.
No chance at taking the orb from him so don’t bother.
Always have Q for his EX-space so he can’t heal up on you.
Never stack with your team because he will just get a double or even tripple incap.
Don’t waste your ult on him.
He won’t counter while he has his empowered M1 so charge at him and counter or thunderclap it. After you can land from the thunderclap/the counter ends he will counter. Do nothing and then EX space after to punish him.
Keep an eye out for the AOE petrify.
If you’re in his ult you can still knock him back if he has static on him.
At the start of the game land your mace, after she uses her wind strike chase her without spacing.
Once she uses her tornado you EX-Space after her and depending on when she win striked last either go for a 3 hit combo or less before thunderclapping to dodge it.
She will try to X-strike mid, stand on one side and try to counter it and steal the orb.
Thorn will try to M2 onto two seperate targets, keep this is mind for potentially free counters.
Thunderclap his space if he goes for you.
After his R he usually spaces or goes for his E.
Avoid getting silenced by using thunder clap and keep the pressure up.
When he uses his R walk in a straight line if he goes through you, this way you won’t get hit by the orbs he spawn.
Incap him when he uses his shield.
Hard to chase, go for his team and incap him so he can’t port them at crucial moments.
Thunderclap his polymorph.
If he has spawned a illusion you can counter its attacks which will confuse him.
