Pestilus is a champion with a large amount of crowd control and burst damage/healing. He relies heavily on his teammates to play according to his playstyle, utilizing crowd control all while balancing heals and damage when necessary. He is extremely unpredictable when it comes to movement by utilizing certain battlerites. He excels when panics are hit consistently, including the queen explosion. He has the best trading mechanics in the game if he synchronizes his abilities correctly.
Moth – Mouse 1 (Battlerites: Overlord)
Utilizing overlord battlerite to provide unpredictable movement speed and passive aggressive play style.
Utlizing 7% / 14% / 21% Respectivley for what they are best at…21% is great for aggression/pushing.
Often times players have a general knowledge of the distance of your abilities… however when your movement speed is unpredictable it can create a ripple effect…
however, it allows you to move in and hit a skill shot quicker than the player naturally would react giving you a window of opportunity.
This window of opportunity can be gone just a quick if you have ever watched me play pestilus and wonder why at the beginning of the game I will fire my M2 and instantly space back into a position
that I am going to be generally safe or to dodge an incoming projectile because I don’t have the movement speed to dodge it.
Bloodsucker – Mouse 2 / Vomit (EX-M2 or 1)
Bloodsuckers are your essential ingredient to what makes pestilus scary…you’re enemies will tremble in fear if you hit this every time and on QUE every 4 seconds.
So let’s start off by asking yourself a question, are you against 1 melee, 2 melees, or 2 ranged, or 1 healer (that has ranged attacks) and another ranged. These are important.
The reason being is simple you’re vomit is attached to this ability and your vomit is your saving grace when it comes to fighting a melee more so than any other ability other than mind control.
Why mind control or vomit instead of just simply using panic? Because…vomit does not trigger counter ability’s, mind control as opposed to panic has a longer cast time but a faster projectile speed and velocity therefore harder to dodge and more difficult to predict as the animation looks similar to bloodsuckers (Mouse 2)
Vomit is by far one of pestilus’s best abilities due to its sheer ability to create perfect combos with mind control and panics. Overall NEVER forget how a .5 root can change everything when it comes to easy to hit panics, queen explosions/panics, or mind controls/bloodsuckers.
Infest – Space
Space can be used in multiple situations.
Let me get started by saying infests main use is in MID/LATE game situations after ORB has been taken by the enemy to dodge ultimate abilities.
Space can be used early game 1-2 times before ORB, I often like to use my early space for escaping melee players when they initiate the first fight or dodging incoming projectiles.
My favorite use would be to fire my bloodsucker and space the enemy projectile, and the reason I do this is my velocity and projectile speed are much faster allowing for me to get 30 dmg on my enemy 15 on myself, I then place my queen to heal the 15 dmg, and apply my first moth or 2nd usually first since I did this opener instead of MOTH/MOTH opener which allows for defense/movement speed.
Remember to keep track of energy gains and ORBS. If your enemy has a ULT and you have no space…you are going to be in a pickle…and most likely dead. Dieing as pestilus is a terrible feeling because of often means you made a slight…error that will end up in your demise.
Infest can also be used to save your teammate from Ultimate abilities or Large Damage projectiles all while using it to reposition yourself in the process.
Keep in mind never infest into the enemy unless you plan on vomiting on enemies and setting up a panic to seperate your enemys afterwords, and then follow up on one to finish them off…it is at best used as a FINISHING MOVE but nothing else, but be very careful when doing so.
QUEEN – Q
Utilizing Queen panic explosion IS VERY IMPORTANT!
For 1000’s of games, during early stages of pestilus I myself was forced to play pestilus without the greatest ability known to pestilus…MOVING QUEEN.
Why? you may ask? Well let me tell you
moving queen, allows for you to do a multitude of plays…including blocking orb, randomly, catching bullets like the matrix, moving your queen up your enemies butt….and best of all I like to call walk the dog…while your moving to block enemy projectiles while still gaining ground and not having to worry about your enemy!
But better yet! let’s go a little deeper, shall we…? We can make our queen act as if it’s not moving, or already has moved and SUPRISE MUDDA TRUCKA…booom your panic..boom you just ate my bloodsucker o shit another panic? good lord now what?
This is what I call pestilus mayhem…when your brain becomes confetti and you forget how to play the game…and essentially just turn your computer off
No lol just kidding…ok ok…back to the truth lets list it off…
⦁ Blocking Shots while Moving
⦁ Blocking Shots from Orb
⦁ Blocking Ultimate Abilitys
⦁ Saving Teammates with Queen Explosion & Panic
⦁ Walk the dog, is moving the queen beside yourself while walking forward and blocking incoming projectiles allowing yourself to re-position.
⦁ Setting up Triple Panics…or Finishing a Double Panic off into a Triple by moving the queen in the estimated location that the panic will end.
Arachnophobia (PANIC) – E BRAIN BUG – (EX-E or 2)
(Battlerites: Increased Panic Duration + 8 DMG & Double Bounce)
Panics can be used as many tools, zoning, control, orb steal, surviving double melee. The art of hitting clean panics. Not perfectly centered but on the edge…which can often create double panics or even triple panics if you follow up with moving queen. Using walls, to throw you panic over…which adds an element of unpredictability for enemies and they often miss it coming, and are unable to dodge quickly enough, surprise panic.
Following up incaps, stuns with a perfectly executed double panic or queen explode into double panic or double panic into queen pop. Remember these combos, memorize them to better execute perfect combinations.
Syncing your abilities is like synchronized swimming…everything must align to hit the perfect shot.
Act like your hiding behind your queen m1ing, to heal and then an enemy is coming closer, use mind control, sidestep, move queen behind enemy, or enemy into queen and prepare to fire Bloodsucker (Mouse 2) to hit them simultaneously (VERY ESSENTIAL), if not at least the Bloodsucker hits after the queen pop, but never before.
Also, remember if you throw your M2 at you’re Queen while it is moving towards your enemy as it is about to explode, you can time the velocity of the skill shot and they will also link up simultaneously.
Swarm – R
Not much to say here…saves you from some damage from time to time. Use it as frequently as possible when you have energy to block incoming projectiles/damage or to be aggressive. Also great when you know you have to SPACE and you will also get followed up by an ULTIMATE ability (can mitigate how much damage you will receive but no guarantee of not being eliminated.
Scarab Pack – F
I absolutely love Pestilus ultimate ability, for a few reasons but the biggest is that it can heal and the range of it + velocity.
This ability can be used for many things, often zoning, or catching people off guard.
Remember that it can also be used and then mounted and carried long distances before you have to demount and take your shots.
Great for keeping low HP teammates alive.
It lasts for 7 seconds and the casting cool down is .6 seconds, which means it takes 1.8 seconds to fire all 3 shots, so you can use 4-5 of them simply riding your mount keep this in mind.
3. Battlerite Overview
YOUR MOVEMENT SPEED INCREASES BY 7% FOR EACH ALLY AFFECTED BY MOTH. STACKS UP TO 3 TIMES.
⦁ Great for escaping area of effect (aoe)
⦁ Excellent for dodging projectiles
⦁ Effective at ranged vs ranged combat
⦁ Moth Order of Application – TEAMMATES > QUEEN > ENEMY (Unless getting dived by melee then use vomit to apply moths)
⦁ The movement speed adds unpredictability allowing for random side step (ult dodges on bakko and other heroes due to the nature that 21% is quite quick players do not anticipate it and sometimes can slip away without wasting an infest.
Queen spawns with a Swarm Shield that absorbs up to 28 damage and lasts 1.2 seconds.
⦁ WITHOUT THIS YOUR QUEEN DIES INSTANTLY
⦁ WITHOUT THIS YOUR QUEEN DIES TO PROJECTILES INSTANTLY
⦁ WITHOUT THIS YOUR QUEEN DIES
⦁ Downside it provides additional energy to you’re enemies, so placing it behind you sometimes can be beneficial or in a spot that is within range of your hero but out of enemy’s range to hit it for free energy.
Recasting the Queen commands it to fly towards target location, Reduces cooldown of Queen by 1s.
⦁ Utilize this for Queen Taxi (Infest / Move Queen far Away from melee heroes)
⦁ Great for pushing orb and blocking terrain/corners/or enemies on walls
⦁ Hitting Triple Panics / Combing and Free Damage
⦁ Zoning / Crowd Control
⦁ Large portion of pestilus damage when used correctly
⦁ Blocking Shots while Moving
“NOTE: Queen can be moved while stunned / incapacitated”
SPIDERLING VENOM / EGG CARRIER
SV – Arachnophobia deals 8 damage. Increases Panic duration by 0.5 seconds.
EC – Arachnophobia bounces forward causing another impact. The radius of the second impact is 15% Larger
⦁ Spiderling Venom is the KEY to double panics without the duration this does not occur.
⦁ Egg Carrier ALLOWS FOR DOUBLE PANICS WITH THE DURATION
⦁ The damage is great for stealing mid orb at right moments.
⦁ Egg Carrier Is great for melee pressure, cast on yourself and stand in a circle.
⦁ Utilizing Egg Carrier to hit Extremely Long Range panics in LOW Hp Battles to often tilt the tide in your favour.
4. PESTILUS POSITIONING
2s – Be behind your teammate
(BODY BLOCKING RUSH ATTACKS/KNOCKUPS)
3s – V Formation One on left of you one on right, in front of you, with a gap
Always position yourself behind your teammate, and try to make sure he stays close to you..if he goes too deep you may have to use infest to stay within range otherwise he will lose a large portion of max HP very early in the game.
When your healing your teammates try to use your M2 for DMG and M1 for heals, however, don’t forget to apply your 3rd moth so you have 21% movement speed, it will allow you to hit more bloodsuckers with less predictability.
Most players will focus on your position and think, he can’t hit me…however with 21% movement speed which may differ from my 0% 1 second ago…I can sneak in and hit my m2 and escape without suffering any dmg.
Late game positioning keeps a large gap between you and ALL enemies…any ultimate + stun can ruin everything for even the best pestilus player.
His greatest weakness is being locked down, his greatest strength is his unpredictable movement while kiting & dealing dmg & removing max hp from enemies,
1 MAX HP BAR of PEST for 2 MAX HP OF ENEMY = GOOD TRADE Pestilus survives well on low hp.
5. How to Play (in general)
Type of play style is enemy dependent.
#1 Moth my teammate to start, Mouse 2 (Bloodsucker) pump fake, Mouse 2 (Bloodsucker). Place Queen, Moth Queen, Moth Teammate. Push forward with queen while movement speed is activated. This requires two things, your teammate has taken NO early game damage, and you have also taken no damage.
#2 Ride mount until teammate sustains damage, Mouse 2 – (Bloodsucker) Teammate, Mouse 1 (Moth) Teammate, Place Queen, Moth Queen, Push Forward with queen, trying to place next moth. If teammate sustains more damage mouse 2 teammate, place queen push forward. (This is zerging tactic)
#3 Bait myself into enemy Mouse 2 (Bloodsucker), trade Mouse 2 (Bloodsucker) for space and -15 to myself Enemy takes 30 I take 15 heal instantly, place queen and zerg forward as his healer heals (Please refer to #2).
These are openers.
Mid game, is about sustain and damage trades. Look for clean trades in which you get free Mouse 2 (Bloodsucker) and no return damage or crowd control. Try to avoid getting CC’d too much as your teammate will be eliminated very fast if you do this, also infest is great tool to buy time for other ability’s, if you cannot sustain teammate because you have no Mouse 2(Bloodsucker) or QUEEN and your simply trying to Mouse 1 (Moth) heal him while hes taking MASSIVE damage, just infest your teammate he will not die and you will reset your cool downs and have another opportunity.
bakko (WITH GOOD USE OF INFESTS/PANICS CAN WIN MATCHUP EASY)
RUH KAAN (WITH GOOD USE OF INFESTS/PANICS CAN WIN MATCHUP EASY)
8. Team Compositions
Pestilus & Jade
Pestilus & Varesh
Pestilus & Bakko
9. MASTEH’S TRICKS
MAX DMG COMBO – SIMOTANIOUS QUEEN EXPLOSION WITH M2.
Cast Queen > Mind Control Enemy (Through Queen) > Step to Left/Right > (1) M1 only once > Move Enemy Into Queen or Queen Into Enemy (Preferrably Behind Him) > M2 (Queen will pop very soon try to pay attention to timer to syncronize them).
#1 THROWING QUEEN STRAIGHT AT ENEMY
– AIM directly at the queen so the velocity of the bloodsucker syncs and hits directly after the queen explosion. It is very suprising for many players since they expect I am shooting the queen, when I am shooting them instead.
#2 THROWING QUEEN BEHIND ENEMY
Easy M1, Easy M2 – PANIC PUSHES ENEMY TOWARDS YOU FOR FOLLOW UP M1’s (Keep in mind you may want enemy to go oppisite direction if this is the case stick to #1 method.
#3 THROWING ENEMY ONTO QUEEN (WITH MIND CONTROL)
Easy m1, m2, into panic, m1, m1. Plenty of free damage.
